The Goring is Pride of Britain’s Hotel of the Year

April 2009: The Goring in London has been named "Hotel of the Year" by Pride of Britain Hotels, a collection of the country’s finest privately-owned hotels. As its centenary approaches, The Goring is now the only five star luxury hotel in London that is owned and run by the family that built it. Jeremy Goring is the fourth Goring to run The Goring since 1910.

Pride of Britain Hotels has thirty seven member hotels. The annual award is given to the hotel judged by undercover guests to offer the best hospitality. Three were shortlisted this year before each was visited covertly by mystery guest couples and the winner declared.

Peter Hancock, chief executive of Pride of Britain Hotels, said: “Our 37 member hotels are very different but one thing they all have in common is a dedication to great hospitality. From this year’s inspections we were convinced that The Goring most perfectly demonstrates the ability to deliver truly outstanding hospitality every day of the year.”

David Morgan-Hewitt, managing director at The Goring, added: “We are delighted to win Hotel of the Year.  We have a superb staff at The Goring and their dedication and inate hospitality has shone through.  Next year is our Centenary and to win this is a great start to the build up for the celebrations.”

Tucked away behind Buckingham Palace in Belgravia and owned by the same family for almost 100 years, The Goring reflects one family’s passion for quality, and for providing comfort, good food and drink and the most attentive service for the past ten decades.

About The Goring

The Goring was opened by Otto Goring in 1910. As its centenary approaches, it is now the only five star luxury hotel in London that is owned and run by the family that built it. Jeremy Goring is the fourth Goring to run The Goring since his great-grandfather opened it. Deep in the heart of Belgravia, just behind Buckingham Palace, The Goring is within strolling distance of the Royal Parks and the best shops, theatres and galleries in town.

The Goring will celebrate its 100th birthday in 2010 and the interiors are currently being refreshed by some of the country’s finest designers. There are 71 individually designed, classically English rooms and suites, many overlooking the garden. The Dining Room, designed by David Linley, is a haven for superbly cooked English food using British ingredients. The Bar has been gloriously transformed by designer Tim Gosling in a theatrical, Empire style, with gilded ceilings, swagged curtains and bespoke carpets. Six of the hotel’s guestrooms are currently being transformed by designer Russell Sage, using historical silks from the archives of Gainsborough Silks, Royal Warrant Holders.

Above all, The Goring reflects one family’s passion for quality – whose members have prided themselves on providing comfort, good food and drink and the most attentive service for almost one hundred years.
